Facebook: Different Features On Facebook Add The Zing To “Facebooking”

The world of Facebook, the site that lets you keep in touch with your friends, is growing at a fast pace. It is the one of the most popular sites for social networking amongst undergraduate students. Facebook was established in the year 2004 by a former student of Harvard class of 2006. Initially meant only for the students of Harvard, this site started accepting members from all those who had Harvard university email id. Then from September 2006, it opened up memberships to all people with a valid e-mail id.

Facebook has become popular due to a very important factor that this site has some strict guidelines about what can be done and what is not allowed on the site. In this way, the site has been able to control user spam. For those who are genuinely interested in just sending messages and sharing photos, this is a great place for meeting.

Some Basic Features Of Facebook Which Attract The Users:

The Message Board: Known as the ‘wall’, it is a space on the user’s profile where friends can post messages for the user. These messages can be seen by anyone who has the access to the profile. While for messages of more private nature, friends can send them to inbox, which works more like e-mail.

Gift Facility: There is a virtual store on Facebook, from where users can send gifts in form of small icons, to their friends. Each gift costs the user $1.00.

Pokes: There are pokes which serve no exact purpose. Users send each other pokes just for fun, to converse through them. It is for the members to make sense of pokes in any way they want to.

Posting Ads: Facebook has a free ‘classified ads’ posting facility available to all its users. Here users can post ads of property, jobs, articles etc. for free.

Facebook Events: This feature allows all the users to communicate to their friends about upcoming events etc.

Firefox Extensions: Though almost perfect, there is still scope for improvement in Facebook. You can use the different firefox extensions to add more fun to your experience on Facebook. You may install Firefox email to image, FaceOff, toolbar or boost for Facebook extensions to become a Facebook-pro. You can add a sidebar to your web page where you will get alerts about your friend’s updates, news and new additions in your community etc. All this and much more while you browse other websites.

There are promotional offers and incentives going on for members who attract more members to join Facebook. The idea is to keep on adding new users and at the same time retaining the already active users, to get the maximum benefits from advertisements.
